Tips for Parents of Preschoolers

The early years are critical to developing a lifelong love of reading. You can't start reading to a child too soon!

Read together every day.
Read to your child every day. Make this a warm and loving time when the two of you can cuddle close together. Bedtime is an especially great time for reading together.

Looking to Recruit Respite Carers

Five Rivers Fostering are now actively looking for foster families who can offer respite care to young people. The families will need to be able to commit to offering care to children for small durations (e.g. for a weekend, a week at summertime, Easter and Christmas Holidays, etc.)

Family Support day 23rd April 2014

Five Rivers Ireland organised a support day for over the Easter holidays. Over 70 Five Rivers Ireland carers, staff and foster children attended the event and shared a lovely day and lunch in the grounds of Doneraille Park in the Cork countryside. 

Educational Support

Five Rivers Educational support is now offering support to over 30 of the children/young people placed in our service and is proving a great help to develop the their educational potential.

Kilkenny Support Services

Five Rivers are at an advanced stage of developing a support service in Kilkenny. The support service will be based in a  house, ten minutes from the city and will cater to the needs of our foster families and the children/young people placed. Training, Therapy, Access and support will be offered to all families in the area.

Irish Foster Care Association - National Conference

 

Irish Foster Care Association are holding their National Conference this November.

Call for Papers

The Conference will be attended by general/relative foster carers, social workers, academics and others involved in the area of foster care.

Publication of Children First Bill 2014

Welcoming the publication of the Children First Bill 2014, Norah Gibbons, Chair of the Child and Family Agency, said:

“The Child and Family Agency welcomes the long-awaited publication of the Children First Bill.  Together with the suite of other measure taken in recent years, including the establishment of a dedicated Child and Family Agency, the legislation will help to bring about a new approach to child protection in Ireland.

We are delighted to announce the launch of our carer to carer support blog on our website. All  foster carer's can use their private logon details to access the 'snippets of experience' blogs written by other foster carer's.  As we all know fostering is not easy & we hope this informal support will help our foster carers.
