Official Launch of New Child and Family Agency 'Tusla'

A new state body to protect children has been billed as a ferocious corporate parent demanding the best for the country's youngsters.

The Child and Family Agency will takeover the role of three separate bodies to improve services for children, which the Government says is the most effective response to repeated and tragic failings of the past.

It will have 4,000 staff, a budget of 609 million euro and a national network of 106 community based family resource centres.

Child Rescue Ireland launch a new app

A smartphone app that will send out an immediate alert when a child goes missing has been launched.

The app is designed to be of use in a country where more than half the population now own a smartphone.

The alert will include a picture of the missing child, age, nationality and other distinguishing features along with information on where the child was last seen.

Parents will be able to upload details about their own children and release them if their child ever goes missing and if there is a reasonable belief that the child is in danger.
