The Public Sector Award 2014

Training Workshop on Neglect 20th of August, Cork

Many thanks to Five Rivers Foster Carers who travelled from near and far to attend the Neglect Workshop in Cork last Thursday. Unfortunately, the majority of children in our care have experienced neglect. The workshop offered insights into the experiences of children, impact on their emotional wellbeing and how to support their development. While there is no quick fix or one size fits all participants were encouraged to use reflective practice to assist children in their care. Case studies, group work, lessons from research and Carers experiences were very informative.  Carers spoke of the challenges children in their care have faced but also the progress they have made. The stories of children also highlighted the importance of empathy and understanding by adults.

Participants found the following video clips particularly informative and could identify with the challenges faces by “Zoe”.
